Essex County Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Director to lead the delivery of high-quality children's social care services within one of our four operational quadrants.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Children & Families, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of social work within Essex. This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of children and young people across the county.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for frontline children's social care services, ensuring they are aligned with national standards and best practices.
  • Develop and implement innovative strategies to address complex system-wide challenges and improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and partnership working across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Champion staff wellbeing and professional development, creating a supportive and empowering work environment.
  • Manage resources effectively to deliver value-for-money services that meet the diverse needs of our communities.
Your Qualifications:

We are seeking an exceptional leader with a proven track record in social care management. You will possess:

  • A professional qualification in social work and current Social Work England registration.
  • Significant experience leading and managing complex social care services.
  • A deep understanding of the local social and economic landscape, including the challenges facing children and families.
  • Strong project management and commercial acumen.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
