The Team This role presents an exciting opportunity to lead a skilled team of social workers focused on coordinating, training, and supporting adoptive families. The team plays a crucial role in identifying suitable adoptive families for children in need of permanent homes. Based in Chelmsford, we also collaborate with neighboring teams to enhance our service delivery. Essex Adoption Agency, part of Essex County Council Children's Services, is a proud member of the Adopt East Alliance.

The Role

Serve as a professional mentor and expert in best practices related to adoption. Ensure compliance with statutory regulations governing adoption and child welfare. Oversee the assessment and support processes for prospective adopters. Manage the family finding initiatives for children awaiting adoption. Provide support for children placed for adoption prior to the finalization of the Adoption Order. Lead and contribute to identified practice improvements within the Adoption Service. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in accordance with departmental policies. Uphold safeguarding protocols and procedures. Document assessment details, analyze data trends, and respond to information requests. Collaborate with Adopt East Alliance member organizations to promote best practices across the region.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Registered Social Worker. Proven ability to practice in line with professional standards, including the Professional Capability Framework (PCF) and Knowledge & Skills Statement (KSS). Experience leading a team in a social care setting. Background in Children and Family Services, particularly in adoption. Open to change and eager to innovate, with a focus on professional growth and collaborative outcomes. Court experience is preferred. Strong analytical and report writing skills are essential. Understanding the effects of neglect and trauma on children is crucial. Flexibility for occasional out-of-county work is required. Ability to produce comprehensive analytical reports.

Mobility Requirements The role necessitates mobility across a broader operational area, including travel throughout Essex and beyond, as well as transporting service users when necessary. A valid driving license and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet mobility requirements through alternative means, are essential.
