Job Overview
Department: Pathology - Virology
Position: Medical Laboratory Assistant – Band 3
Hours: Full Time: 37.5 hours per week
The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL) is committed to delivering a high-quality, cost-efficient service to patients while ensuring the long-term viability of NHS pathology services in the region.
We are a collaborative organization, co-owned by prominent NHS trusts, and operate as an independent entity hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust. Our governance structure allows each trust an equal voice in the management of the Pathology Partnership, making us one of the largest pathology providers within the NHS.
A significant transformation initiative is underway to establish a unified, integrated pathology network. Our 'hub and spoke' operational model is centered at The Royal London Hospital, linking essential service laboratories at partner hospitals.
The Virology Department is housed in a modern facility adjacent to The Royal London Hospital, employing approximately 35 staff members and processing over 900,000 tests annually. We offer a comprehensive clinical and diagnostic Virology service, utilizing a full spectrum of methodologies, including automated serology and molecular diagnostics. Our laboratory is UKAS accredited and recognized as a training facility by HCPC / IBMS.
We take pride in our advanced platforms and innovative processes, welcoming new ideas and developments. We seek enthusiastic individuals ready to tackle the challenges presented by our diverse patient population and eager to engage in research, training, quality assurance, and validation activities.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will primarily work at The Royal London Hospital but may occasionally be required to assist at other sites. Candidates should possess experience in a Virology Laboratory, including operating and maintaining laboratory analyzers. Attention to detail, efficiency, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are essential.
The role includes participation in a shift rota that covers late and weekend hours.
