London, Greater London, United Kingdom Barts Health NHS Trust Full time

We invite applications for a locum consultant position in the field of Virology within the Department of Infection at Barts Health NHS Trust. This role is primarily situated at the Royal London Hospital (RLH) and encompasses responsibilities across all facilities within the Barts Health NHS Trust, as well as those associated with the East and South East London (ESEL) NHS Pathology Partnership. The successful applicant will collaborate with fellow consultants to deliver a comprehensive Virology service across all Barts Health locations and those with which Barts Health has service level agreements.

This locum position is ideal for consultants who are accredited in Medical Virology or those possessing dual accreditation in Medical Virology and Infectious Diseases.

Key Responsibilities

This is a remarkable opportunity to engage with a growing team of Microbiologists, Virologists, and Infectious Diseases specialists, while also working within a Trust that features an on-site diagnostic laboratory. The laboratory, located at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, is part of the newly established East and South East London (ESEL) NHS Pathology Partnership, which commenced operations on 1st May 2021. This partnership includes Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust pathology services. The Virology and Microbiology laboratories are accredited by UKAS ISO 15189 and provide a comprehensive array of high-quality routine and specialized microbiology and virology investigations for Barts Health, in addition to Trusts with service level agreements with Barts Health. Recognized as one of the Specialist Virology centres by the UK Clinical Virology Network, this laboratory is the largest NHS diagnostic facility in London and one of the largest in the country, with plans for further expansion following the formation of the partnership.
