Role Specifications

Qualifications & Training

Essential Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full registration with the GMC, with a license to practice as a Senior Doctor in Emergency Medicine
  • Specialty Doctor: Minimum of 4 years full-time (or equivalent part-time) postgraduate training, including at least 2 years in Emergency Medicine
  • OR Specialist Doctor: Minimum of 12 years postgraduate full-time (or equivalent), with at least 5 years in Emergency Medicine
  • Certification in ATLS, ALS, APLS, or PALS, or a commitment to complete these courses within 6 months of appointment

Desirable Qualifications

  • Higher qualifications such as FRCEM Primary or Intermediate, MRCP, MRCPG, MRCS, FRCA, or equivalent
  • Experience in teaching junior medical and nursing staff
  • Background in Anaesthetics, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, or Orthopaedic Surgery

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of participation in audit and a commitment to ongoing involvement in departmental audit programs

Desirable

  • Previous publications and presentations
  • Interest in publishing scientific research
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)

Specific Skills

Essential Skills

  • Commitment to integrating research and audit into daily practice
  • Ability to teach clinical skills effectively
  • Capacity to apply research findings to clinical challenges

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in ACCS training programs or equivalent posts, with extensive experience in Emergency and Acute Medicine
  • Experience in teaching basic clinical skills to medical students
  • Willingness to engage in clinical research and development initiatives
