Job Overview

This is a fixed-term role to cover maternity leave, providing an opportunity to work as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in our Immunology department.

The successful candidate will possess a specialist diploma from the Institute of Biomedical Science and have experience in processing biological samples, including blood, urine, faeces, cerebral spinal fluid, and other tissues.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Sample Processing: Take personal responsibility for the quality and authorization of results used in diagnosis, treatment, and management of disease.
  2. Specialist Scientific Skills: Possess highly developed skills in complex manual, semi-automated, and automated analytical techniques.
  3. Result Interpretation: Demonstrate a high level of skill to perform complex analytical techniques, meeting turnaround times with prompt reporting of results used in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  4. Workload Management: Plan and prioritize workload of Biomedical Scientists, Trainee BMS, and support staff.
  5. Quality Control: Use statistical packages to monitor quality control trends and analyze for various Immunology machines.
  6. Autoimmune Disorders: Demonstrate knowledge of the pathology of autoimmune disorders.
  7. Professional Development: Participate in the Institute of Biomedical Sciences CPD scheme.
Requirements
  • State Registration: State registration with Health Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • Education: Educated to BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences or a degree acceptable to the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Health and Safety: Knowledge of all health and safety issues relating to laboratory activity.
  • Laboratory Information Systems: Working knowledge of laboratory information systems.
