About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team at Virgin Atlantic Limited. As a Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for assisting the Direct Operating Costs and Revenue teams with GL accounting, controls operation, and audit. This will include financial accounting processes and reconciliations, including revenues, taxes, global operating and overhead costs.

You will be accountable for ensuring that processes are performed without issue each month end and for ensuring revenue recognition is accurate, and that accruals, reconciliations, and any necessary releases (including review of invoices) are performed on a timely basis.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Transfer accounting transactions data into Oracle from underlying systems
  2. Capture and complete revenues, taxes, and DOCs, reflecting all flights/movements in the period
  3. Post accurate journals, including taxes, billing rejections, forward commissions and waivers, prepayments, accruals, calculation of cargo override and commission charges, payroll, and provisions
  4. Deliver timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliation schedules to meet statutory, regulatory, shareholder, and management reporting requirements
  5. Monitor and highlight instances of under/over provisioning in a timely manner
  6. Support the maintenance/integrity of mapping tables within underlying systems and feed into Oracle
  7. Play an active role in the ongoing development of a best-in-class finance function, with particular focus on revenue, tax, accruals, prepayments, and overhead processes
  8. Review and challenge calculations and output from systems, ensuring completeness and accounting accuracy, and consistency with knowledge of the operational environment
  9. Close promptly at month end, in accordance with internal timetables, and ensure that all expenses are correctly recorded
  10. Be the primary point of contact for queries (including audit queries) on the posting of actual results, with the ability to discuss and push back when required
  11. Work with Accounts Payable to ensure that invoices received can be reconciled back to the accruals made
  12. Support the Finance Manager with a successful close-out of the external interim and full-year audit
About You
  • You are a strong communicator with experience in a finance-related role
  • You have a minimum part-qualified status in CIMA/ACCA/ACA
  • You have strong MS Office and Excel skills
  • You have strong system skills, particularly in Oracle Financials
  • You are inquisitive, with the ability to challenge and improve processes
  • You have proven capability to prioritize work
  • You have attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • You have the ability to communicate with senior levels of management, explaining complex processes in a succinct way
  • You have problem-solving skills within an overall business context
  • You have good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex processes into clear, simple messages
