Head of External Communications

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of External Communications to lead our PR, Corporate Communications, and Press Office teams. As a key member of our Corporate Affairs department, you will play a critical role in protecting and promoting our reputation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive external communications strategy to drive business objectives and maintain a strong reputation.
- Lead a team of communications specialists to deliver high-quality PR, corporate communications, and press office services.
- Manage and develop relationships with key stakeholders, including senior leaders, external partners, and media.
- Collaborate with marketing, commercial, product, and customer services teams to deliver key business priorities.
- Develop and deliver strategic PR objectives and plans to ensure a constant high profile while guarding our brand's reputation.
- Oversee the press office function, providing support with responses to reactive media inquiries and acting as a senior adviser on incidents.
- Provide oversight for the PR agency and press monitoring provider, ensuring they understand our priorities and deliver high-quality services.
- Develop our corporate social media strategy to drive up quality awareness and impact.
Requirements:
- Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills.
- Experience working in PR and communications, preferably in an in-house setting.
- Experience managing and guiding a PR agency.
- Experience planning and managing multiple PR campaigns simultaneously.
- Strong copywriting and grammar skills.
- Highly organized and comfortable managing several projects simultaneously.
- Solid knowledge of social media platforms.
- Experience creating and running social activity, including influencer campaigns.
- Experience with communications measurement tools.
Location: This role could be based in Salford or London, with some travel required between the two locations each month. A small amount of weekend press office cover is required, approximately two hours each month.
