Position Overview

We are seeking dedicated Oral and Maxillofacial Specialty Physicians to enhance our department.

In this role, you will engage in outpatient consultations, conduct minor surgical procedures under local anesthesia, and participate in general anesthesia operations within the surgical suite, contingent upon your experience and confidence as evaluated by the supervising Consultant. You may also manage referrals from various departments based on the operational requirements of the unit.

Comprehensive training will be provided in all facets of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Medicine, with opportunities to collaborate in joint clinics alongside orthodontics, restorative dentistry, and oncology.

Please note that Clinical Fellow or Specialty Registrar experience cannot be included in the salary calculation as per the current employment terms.

Key Responsibilities

As a successful candidate, your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Conducting general and specialized outpatient consultations, along with minor surgical procedures under local anesthesia.
  • Performing day case surgical lists with appropriate oversight as necessary.
  • Collaborating closely with Consultants to ensure the efficient operation of the Consultant surgical lists.
  • Responding to emergencies and managing referrals to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department from other specialties within the healthcare facility.
  • Addressing administrative tasks and correspondence related to the aforementioned duties in a timely manner.
  • Participating in ward rounds and surgical sessions as scheduled (on a rotational basis).
  • Providing instruction to medical and dental students as required.
  • Engaging in a 1 in 6 out-of-hours second on-call rota for Oral and Maxillofacial Emergencies and inpatient care. A Dental Core Trainee or Trust grade will be the first on-call until 5 pm, with the Consultant serving as the third on-call.
  • Maintaining up-to-date administrative responsibilities, including triaging, signing letters, and preparing result and discharge summaries as needed.
  • Participating in audit projects across the network and attending at least 75% of the monthly audit and morbidity and mortality meetings.
  • Attending weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BDS or equivalent qualification.

Desirable

  • MFDSRCS or MJDFRCS qualifications.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-dental foundation experience.
  • Completion of four years of full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent if part-time), with at least two years in a specialty training program or equivalent experience and competencies.

Desirable

  • Experience in independent operations in Dentoalveolar Surgery and Maxillofacial Trauma.
