Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a joint appointment with MSEFT and the University of Essex. The Senior Lecturer in Oncology will assume a pivotal role in providing clinical leadership to the Centre for Interdisciplinary Cancer Studies, aimed at advancing cancer research initiatives within MSEFT, focusing on data sciences, biology, genomics, health sciences, and population health.

This role encompasses both clinical responsibilities as a Consultant Oncologist, specializing in Lung and Melanoma, within the MSEFT Oncology Department.

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Cancer Studies represents a collaborative effort between the University of Essex and MSEFT, dedicated to leveraging data to address real-world challenges and enhance patient outcomes and experiences.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a Consultant Oncologist with a keen interest in cancer data and its application for service enhancement. A proven ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and establish strong relationships with senior clinicians is essential.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry or within six months of obtaining Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview
  • Completion of specialist training or equivalent
  • A higher degree such as MD or PhD
  • MRCP/FRCR or equivalent
  • Inclusion on GMC Specialist Register for oncology or within six months of attainment at the time of interview
  • Evidence of management training

Desirable:

  • Formal training in Data Science or experience in collaborative projects involving Data Science/AI/Machine Learning

Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

  • Extensive training and experience in the specialty
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty with the ability to provide expert clinical opinions
  • Capability to independently manage service delivery without direct supervision

Teaching Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in supervising undergraduates, junior doctors, and other healthcare staff
  • Ability to teach clinical skills effectively
