**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Job Title: Housing Support Worker**

**Project and Location**: Housing Support for Young People in the Armagh/Dungannon Area

**Reports to** Project Manager

**Main Purpose of Job**:To provide Housing Support to Young People (18-25) in the Community

BCM is over 130 years old making it one of Northern Irelands oldest charities. Housing Support for Young People supports young people (aged 18-25) to access and maintain accommodation in the community. Support can be provided for up to 2 years depending on their needs. Our young people come from all walks of life, many with challenging and complex needs such as addiction and mental health. We work holistically with each young person to support them to find and move into suitable accommodation and to develop their independent living skills.

**Main Job Tasks**
- Provide Housing related Support to a case load of young people living in the community
- Assess needs and develop support plans with each young person to meet their specific needs, ensuring support plans are continually monitored and reviewed to assess progress toward agreed goals.
- Develop, monitor and review risk assessments and risk management plans for each young person.
- Maintain a Person-Centred approach at all times ensuring that young people have the necessary information they need to make informed decisions.
- Develop professional working relationships with young people and provide practical support with all aspects of independent living including cleaning, cooking, budgeting, shopping, decorating etc
- Liaise with other agencies (NIHE, Social Services, Community groups) to ensure the young persons’ needs are met.
- Maintain accurate, up to date records and case files in relation to all work activity and meet relevant deadlines as requested by the Project Manager.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures as set down by BCM and comply with the standards for Social Care Staff as set down by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (Maintain NISCC Registration annually)
- To promote Service User involvement and active participation in the Project.
- To be available to work at times appropriate to the changing needs of the Service Users and to ensure the efficient use of staff resources. This may include (on occasion) working outside normal hours.
- BCM has a large number of Volunteer’s across the organisation and the Housing Support Worker may work alongside volunteers and provide the necessary support when required.

- Minimum of 1 year(s) experience supporting Young People
- Experience of providing housing related support

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- QCF Level 2 In Health and Social Care.

**SKILLS**
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to competently use IT for communication and record-keeping
- Knowledge of other support organisations in the local area.

**TRANSPORT**
- Possess a full (clean) UK driving license and business insurance and have access to a car (you will be expected to transport Service Users, on occasion to appointments etc)

**GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS**

Duration**:Permanent**

Hours: 20 hours per week, (and may on occasion include evenings and weekends)

Flexible working: Ability to start work between 8am-10am and finish between 4pm-6pm.

**Salary**:£19.565 - £20.880 pro-rata per annum (BCM salary scale point 19-21)

Holidays: Based on 21 days per annum plus 12 Public Holidays.

Probation Period: Six months.

Pension: Entitled to join after three months service. Staff are required to make a minimum contribution of three percent of basic salary to their personal pension within the Group Scheme.

Period of Notice: Less than six months service = 1 week.

Six months service or more = 1 month.

Up to 12 months SSP only

12 months plus 4 weeks full pay

4 weeks half pay

SSP only

No sick pay will be paid in respect of the first 3 days of any period of sickness absence.

Access NI: This post requires that a check must be carried out under the requirements off Access NI Enhanced Disclosure. This will involve a full criminal record check which will show spent and unspent convictions, cautions, cases pending and any other relevant information.
