JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Mental Health Peer Support Worker with QCF/NVQ level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) and experience of working with Young People delivering 1-2-1 and/or group support.
As the Mental Health Peer Support Worker you will work as part of the organisation’s Brent Mental Health Peer Support Service.
The Mental Health Peer Support Worker will provide peer support and practical assistance to young adult service users in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery journey.
Through sharing the wisdom of own lived experience of recovery, the Mental Health Peer Support Worker will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others by facilitating and supporting information sharing to promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.

DUTIES
Your duties and responsibilities as the Mental Health Peer Support Worker will include:
Work with the Pathway Lead to deliver support to individuals accessing the borough young adult service
Facilitate the young adult to make the transition from CAMHS to Adult Mental Health Services
Assume a ‘coaching’ role supporting service users in developing personal recovery plans; this can be delivered individually or in groups
Assist service users to identify their strengths, personal interests and goals
Model/mentor a recovery process and demonstrate coping skills, using own experience of recovery
Provide opportunities for service users to direct their own recovery process
Work together with the service user and where possible, their family members/carers, in the drawing up of care plans encouraging and motivating them to take an active role in their own care plan
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Lived experience of mental health challenges and ability to work with Young People in a relatable way to build rapport and trust
QCF / NVQ level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent
Full UK driving license and have access to own transport with appropriate insurance to cover work related travel
Working knowledge of debts, housing, mental health, dementia, employment, and social prescribing
Experience of working with Young People delivering 121/group support
Experienced in maintaining professional boundaries, even in challenging situations
Ability to make a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s situation and needs; to develop, implement and review risk management plans and devise support plans to meet these needs
Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with service users and practice in a non-discriminatory manner, respecting the beliefs and cultural practices
Experience of using clinical outcome measures to inform practice
Confident communicator with excellent verbal and written skills
Good knowledge of standard IT packages including Microsoft Word, Excel and use of database / information systems
Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and be self-reflective in own personal and professional development
Able to prioritise workload demands and positively respond to unforeseen challenges
Deal with stressful and difficult situations in a calm manner
