The role of Patient Flow Matron is crucial to ensuring that patients are admitted to hospital in a timely and appropriate manner and that beds, specialist advice and intervention are available as and when needed.

You will report into the Medicine Care Group but will take responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of patient flow across the UHMBT hospital sites, ensuring our patients receive safe, high quality and coordinated care.

Providing operational management of the UHMBT Clinical Site Team for the delivery of effective patient flow across the hospitals, the post holder will also work with Integrated Care System partners for reporting purposes, promote evidence based visible, compassionate leadership act as a role model for best practice.

You will develop and implement collaborative ways of working in managing patient flow from admission to discharge in a safe, efficient, and coordinated manner across all areas.

You will be required to provide leadership through the site Clinical Operations Room for the delivery of effective patient flow across the hospitals. They will provide effective leadership and line management for the Clinical Site Managers and support their professional training and development as well as training requirements for the Trust’s major incident plans and arrangements. They will have overall responsibility for the operational day-to-day running of defined clinical areas including bed management and support the Care Groups in the delivery of high standards of patient care, with particular responsibility for the setting and monitoring of these standards. They will provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence within the clinical area of responsibility for patients and their families/carers and staff, providing assistance, advice and support. We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
