**About Us**:
Combat Stress is the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans. For over a century we’ve been helping former servicemen and women deal with issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. Today we provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict, focusing on those with complex mental health issues related to their military service. We provide a range of community, outpatient and residential mental health services to veterans with complex mental health problems. We provide services in-person, and via phone and online.
**About the role**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Peer Support Mentor to join our growing Peer Support team. We work in partnership with multiple NHS Trusts across the North of England.You will be part of the Op Courage team delivering important support to veterans accessing the service. This support will be both individual and group intervention, in person and occasionally virtually, at a time when the veteran is accessing either care via the core pathway. Although a non-clinical service, you will be working alongside clinicians and Veteran Liaison Support Officers responsible for providing support to veterans and you will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team.
You will be providing a recovery focused peer support service in which every interaction with a veteran, you will be role modelling that recovery is possible. You will be expected to also provide basic signposting advice to help veterans and their families access appropriate services where appropriate. Albeit a service that supports adults, you will need to be child aware and be prepared to signpost and refer to other services as required.
In this challenging but rewarding role, you will be part of passionate team making a positive difference in the lives of veterans and their families. You will be encouraged to develop your skills through CPD and regular reflective practice sessions.
To be successful you will need to demonstrate experience in supporting families, and either have lived experience of Mental Ill Health or a sound working knowledge of the conditions faced veterans accessing the HIS.
