Therapeutic Activity Coordinator

Ward A5 is a 28 bedded trauma orthopaedic unit based on the 1st floor at Wythenshawe hospital. We have a high number of fragility fracture patients and a dedicated trauma co Ordinator’s team to expedite surgery. We work closely with the MDT to ensure right care, right place and right patient. Many of our patients live with dementia and our nurses excel in building relationships with the patients and relatives alike. Working closely with patients living with dementia provides opportunities to support the latest thinking in nursing.

The therapeutic activity coordinator will lead on developing a therapeutic activity programme, facilitating groups and individual interventions and activities to support patients in their recovery goals. The post holder will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, liaising closely with nursing and therapy staff to design person centered activities contributing positively to the emotional and psychological wellbeing of patients.
Responsibilities would be to plan, organise and co-ordinate the Ward Activity Programme, including the timetabling and delivery of group or individual activities in line with ward and therapy timetables.
Be innovative in creating an engaging and varied suite of therapeutic activities including arts, music, reminiscence therapy and physical activities.
Engage proactively with third sector organisations and external partners to develop a variety of activities.
Build a therapeutic relationship with patients, relatives and carers to encourage their interest and participation in activities suited to their particular needs and interests, promoting independence and well being.
Manage the timetabling and delivery of group and individual activities working flexibly including evening and weekends where required in line with the patients therapeutic timetables.
Develop links with specialist practitioner i.e. dementia specialist nurse and learning disabilities specialist nurse to develop bespoke activities for individual patients with specific needs, and tailored programmes for groups of patients with specific conditions.
