**Job summary**:
The Cultural Property team oversees cultural property policy, including statutory functions to enable UK museums and galleries to acquire and exhibit cultural property for public benefit, policy on the illicit trade in cultural property, responding to claims for the restitution of cultural property in UK museums, and responsibility for the government’s relations with the UK art market.

**Job description**:
We are looking for a HEO Policy Adviser to join the Cultural Property team in a newly-created post to help us manage our agenda and respond to the changing policy context, new priorities and new issues at national and international level.

The role will involve working with colleagues in the team and with partners and stakeholders within and outside government to develop, implement and manage policies and initiatives to:

- Deliver and maintain the cultural property statutory functions, in particular the Acceptance in Lieu and Cultural Gifts schemes;
- Protect cultural property in the UK and bring more of the UK’s important cultural property into public ownership;
- Manage and respond to calls for the restitution of cultural property from UK museums to other countries.

There may also be opportunities to contribute to policies and initiatives on other aspects of the team’s agenda, including task management of an Executive Officer (EO), as well as to take on cross-cutting responsibilities both on cultural property and across the wider Museums and Cultural Property team.

**Essential Requirements**:

- ** Making effective decisions**: You use and analyse information from a variety of sources to develop policies and create confidence in your decisions and recommendations.
- ** Working together**: You have strong interpersonal skills, a flexible approach and a proven ability to work with a range of colleagues and stakeholders, including at senior levels.
- ** Communicating and influencing**: You have excellent written and oral communication skills and communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

**Desirable Skills**:

- Knowledge and experience of working in or with the UK art market and/or museums or heritage sector.

We are running an information session where prospective applicants can find out more about the role. This will be hosted by Karl Jagdis, Head of Cultural Property - International Trade and Protection. It will be held on Google Meets and will take place on: -**11am, Tuesday 11th June.**

The session will be an opportunity to hear more about the role, the team and wider directorate and the department. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions.
