**Business Unit information**

The Government Security Function (GSF) oversees the delivery of protective security across Government. Our Mission is to enable Government to protect citizens and provide vital public services by understanding and managing security risks. We set the strategy and standards for Government Security, monitor departmental security performance, manage pan-government security incidents, support the delivery of key security capabilities and lead the Government Security Profession.

The Government Security Group (GSG) is the centre of the Security Function, based within the Cabinet Office. GSG is transforming the Government’s approach to protective security to ensure it is fit to meet the challenges of the digital age. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team, with a breadth of stakeholders including in other Government departments, the National Technical Authorities and the Agencies, and to contribute to delivering improved security across Government.

The Cyber Directorate within GSG is responsible for delivering the Government Cyber Security Strategy, to protect public services and improve cyber resilience across government. The team covers all aspects of defensive cyber security for Government, including strategy, policy, assurance, red teaming, capability development, as well as the operational deliverables of incident, risk and vulnerability management. If you’re passionate about protecting public services, you enjoy working in a dynamic environment with supportive colleagues and you have an interest in cyber security - this is the team for you.

**Role information**

An exciting vacancy has arisen in the Cyber Strategy & Policy Team within the GSG Cyber Directorate. This is a unique opportunity to directly shape and develop cyber security policy at the very heart of government, tackling some of the most challenging cyber policy issues of the day - from managing cyber security risks in the supply chain to defending against ransomware.

In this role you will be delivering on the key ministerial priority for the UK to continue to be a leading cyber power, able to protect its interests in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. The policy and guidance products you develop will have a real impact on increasing the cyber resilience of HMG, as the security community grapples with big picture issues like the threats and opportunities posed by emerging technologies, such as cryptography resistant quantum computers and generative AI, and the increasing commercial availability of offensive cyber tools.

The Cyber Strategy & Policy Team plays a critical role in achieving this aim, by ensuring that government has the right policies and guidance in place to drive organisational resilience, as well as enhance cross-government collaboration and harness shared capabilities to deliver on the objectives in the Government Cyber Security Strategy.

The Cabinet Office functions as a convenor and co-ordinator across the whole of the UK government, and the Cyber Strategy & Policy Team is no different. You will work with a wide variety of stakeholders, including central government departments, Arms Length Bodies (ALBs), the National Cyber Security Centre (a part of GCHQ), the Devolved Administrations, as well as industry and overseas partners.

You will be joining a growing directorate and team, with one HEO policy advisor working directly to you.

The Cyber Strategy & Policy Team is a hybrid team based across multiple locations, currently London, Manchester and York. We are committed to creating a collaborative, inclusive team, so this post will require occasional travel to other Cabinet Office locations (e.g. once a month) so that we can work together face-to-face.

**Job description**:
**As a cyber security policy advisor you will**:

- As part of this work you will have the opportunity to lead on the development of clearly defined aspects of cyber security policy. Our current focus areas include risk management & governance and supply chain security. However, the constantly changing nature of cyber security risk and threat means that you will need to be reactive to changing circumstances and rapid commissions. As such this post will appeal to individuals who are comfortable managing and responding to change at pace.
- Have line management responsibility for one HEO policy advisor.
- Provide professional and expert pol
