**Job summary**:
The Arts, Heritage and Tourism (AHT) Directorate is a dynamic place to work with over 120 people. We develop policy to contribute towards Government priorities like growth and levelling up via tourism and culture. Our sectors are economic powerhouses that drive growth and boost the UK’s reputation internationally. Importantly, they also enrich people’s lives through inspiring, educating, contributing to well being.

The Cultural Diplomacy team aims to use DCMS’ soft power assets to deliver the Government’s economic and foreign policy aims as well as supporting the UK’s role as an international ‘force for good’. The UK’s strength in culture makes it a good foundation for building mutually beneficial relationships between the UK and other countries and their governments as well as promoting our values on the international stage.

This role is to support the Cultural Diplomacy UNESCO Heritage team consisting of one UNESCO Heritage Lead and one Senior Policy Advisor in the Cultural Diplomacy team. You will be line managed by the UNESCO Heritage Lead.

The area of work covered by the team is principally World Heritage, but also includes responsibility for the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and other areas of culture and heritage related UNESCO work (although not areas relating to cultural property, which sit in a separate team).

The UNESCO heritage team largely focuses on the UK’s cultural heritage, but is international facing and engages with a number of departments and organisations outside DCMS.

**Job description**:
The post holder will support: meeting obligations to UNESCO around notifications and reporting; cross-Government and cross-sector stakeholder engagement, coordinating and delivering projects. This will involve a high level of administration, with potentially some research work.

This is a ‘generalist’ policy role, and not a technical ‘specialist’ role that requires specific heritage knowledge or skills.

This is an entry level role that will support the team on a range of work and projects, so there is a lot of opportunity to see and learn about a wide range of policy and project work with a large number of stakeholders. There is also potential for the post holder to lead on specific projects.

**Person specification**:
Essential Requirements:

- Organisational and administration skills with a close eye for detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively, particularly written.
- Stakeholder management skills / relationship building.
- Proactive and positive attitude to getting the job done.
- Team player.

Desirable Skills:

- Interest in the heritage sector.
- Interest and understanding in how Government / UNESCO works.
- Evidence of effective organisation and project management skills.

**Behaviours**:
We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

- Communicating and Influencing
- Managing a Quality Service
- Delivering at Pace

**Benefits**:

- Alongside your salary of £24,779, Department for Culture, Media and Sport contributes £6,690 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
