**Job Purpose**
We are looking to recruit a Send Support Worker (Migrants) whose main purpose and key duties are to continue to provide information, support and guidance to parents of newly arrived children with SEND.
It will also entail advocating for children and young people in their own right as required.
A vital aspect of the post is to promote good communication links with migrants and providers of SEND provision throughout Oxfordshire.
Ideally you will have a good understanding of special educational needs and/or disabilities in schools or educational settings and will have experience of working with parents and carers of children and young people with SEND.
The post will also require the following:
Face to Face support with new migrant arrivals and in schools where they need advice (largely due to new elements of lack of English and cultural differences in providing for SEND)
Preparing copy for the website, including supporting translation of copy for migrant home languages
Be a member of the Migrant Partnership Team, working with various SEND teams including SEND EY, SEND school Transport, etc
Supporting migrants with SEND - schools, special schools, specialist units, SEND entitlement, access to provision, understanding nuances of cultural differences, supporting access to special school transport, holiday provision, respite care, EHCP, and OCC SEND teams, school-based Enrichment, clubs activities (both in school and in the community), including voluntary providers
The creation of a much simplified version of all relevant parental educational guidance for newly arrived migrants
To work with appropriate council education teams to ensure latest compliance with current legislation
To work with translators to prepare content for OCC's website
To work with an Information and Media Administrator to ensure the website is uploaded.
Information and guidance to be available on the website for migrant parents for ease of understanding will relate to all education provision for 5-18 year olds, processes such as school admissions, school transport, attendance, school transfers, exams, assessments, reports, free school meals, uniform, house systems, holidays, term-time and key dates, behaviour management, school trips, etc.
Effective communication with a wide variety of audiences, including paretns/carers, regarding the various funding / grants / schemes in relation to different migrant groups: FSM, Pupil Premium, HAF, Household Support fund, Educating Welfare fund, Government grants, Census and other funding streams - local and national and explaining the relevance of ILR and NRPF to each migrant group.
Develop a training package for schools, other providers and parents/carers
**Responsibilities**
Have an up-to-date knowledge of relevant current SEND legislation and Government guidance
Be a member of the team who registers migrant children (and their families) upon their arrival into the County for schools in Oxfordshire
Be a member of the team who identifies and assesses SEND needs of newly arrived migrant children
Communicate identified SEND needs with parents and signpost to appropriate services and provision, whilst ensuring a sensitivity to cultural differences

Writing copy which can be translated into migrant home languages for the OCC website
