**About the role**

As a result of career development and promotion to other teams a post is now available for a permanent member to join the Adult Safeguarding and Quality Improvement team to work as the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) Lead Officer. The post holder will be a social worker and will strategically lead on all aspects of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA), including the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) to ensure that the Council is compliant with legislative requirements and that the principles of the Act are embedded in practice.

Alongside the Principal Social Worker, the post holder will be a source of advice in relation to MCA matters and act as a point of contact when the Council is involved in any complex cases that require expertise and advice as well as Court of Protection cases.

The post holder will work proactively with key stakeholders within the ICS and across the sector to ensure that the implementation of the MCA agenda improves care outcomes.

The post holder will work closely with the Local Authority LPS lead(s) to support effective partnership collaboration, provide strategic leadership and expert guidance within the Trust across services in relation to the MCA, lead on the development and monitoring of quality performance standards in relation to the MCA and work with internal and external partners to embed the principles of the MCA and improve practice across services.

They will provide advice directly or escalate queries from clinicians at all levels, in relation to the MCA. This will include a combination of fairly routine and complex queries which may need to be triaged before seeking access to legal advice, undertake Mental capacity Act audits of practice and report on themes and recommendations for improving practice and celebrating success.
