Overview

The Project

The PDRA position is funded by the Horizon Euratom and UK Space Agency.

The PDRA will have the opportunities to get involved in a number of projects currently undertaken by the structural integrity team. These projects include developing novel materials for next generation fission and fusion power plants, developing advanced manufacturing techniques for nuclear and space industry, and developing advanced micro-mechanical models. The PDRA will also be supported in developing own fellowship ideas and proposals.

Purpose of the Job

The post holder will be responsible for planning and conducting a series of modelling studies on material deformations. The models will primarily focus on the effect of microstructure on material deformation.

NFI has excellent experimental lab facilities, including high-temperature mechanical testing facilities, material manufacturing and characterisation facilities, and Bangor University Lead Loop for Erosion Testing (BULLET) facilities. The PDRA will be supported for accessing and conducting experiments to validate the developed models. The post holder will be responsible for liaising with external and internal partners involved in the projects.

**Responsibilities**:

- Modelling the deformation and fracture behaviour of materials at high
- temperature.- Develop novel micro mechanical models for materials.- Gathering and analysis of experimental data to validate the developed models.- Actively support the principal investigator in experimental data collection and analysis.- Delivering research outcomes. This will include contribution to the dissemination of research outputs through relevant scientific technical and public press and conferences; working with partners to disseminate results to industry; write regular updates on progress to the project management group; collaborate with co
- researchers and write up the results in scientific articles; write final reports; discussing and sharing results with grant holders.- Administration of the research project.
