The Role

The Business Development & Enterprise Team works with academics to help realise the external impact of the University’s research. Impact is concerned with how the benefits of our research affect change beyond the University, often through mutually beneficial partnerships with a range of stakeholders including communities, businesses, policy makers, charities, and cultural organisations both locally and globally.

The Commercialisation & Partnerships Officer will lead, support, and coordinate a diverse range of activities aligned to economic and social impact. Based within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS), the postholder will work closely with the Business Development Manager and Faculty Research Impact Officer to support activities in partnership with multiple stakeholders, including the National Innovation Centres for Ageing, Data, and Rural Enterprise, businesses, and VCSE (voluntary, community, social enterprise) organisations.

In this important role you will help maximise the value of the £1.25M Economic & Social Research Council Impact Acceleration Account (ESRC IAA) and the Faculty Impact Fund (FIF), effectively delivering on the project’s goals:
To support partnership development between social scientists and non-academic organisations.
Embed a culture of engagement in the social sciences, via training, cross-cutting engagement platforms.
Enable increased knowledge exchange activities between researchers and the private, public and third sectors.

This can be a secondment opportunity for internal colleagues to develop their skills over a period of 5 years, you should discuss this with your line manger before applying.

We offer hybrid working and the role will be based on site usually 2-3 days a week (more if preferred). It is a part time 0.5 FTE, fixed term post until 31/03/2028.

Key Accountabilities Establish and maintain productive relationships with the university’s academic and research community to stimulate awareness of the IAA for impact opportunities, and to encourage an innovative and entrepreneurial culture Work closely and collaboratively with the Business Development Manager, Faculty Research Impact Officer to initiate and support the development of new and existing relationships between the University and external partners Analyse and evaluate the impact potential of opportunities to develop appropriate approaches to generate impact Support the planning and delivery of impact events, workshops, training, networking and any other activities organised by the IAA to support impact generation within the University with a focus on social sciences research Support development of resources to promote impact creation amongst the academic community Work closely and collaboratively with the Events, Communications, and Finance Officer to support the operational development, delivery, and monitoring of impact and engagement activities, which may include financial reporting and ad-hoc administration Support the development, delivery, and monitoring of knowledge exchange programmes, including both inbound (external partners into the University) and outbound (academic researchers into partner organisations) Capture quantitative and qualitative data arising from impact and engagement activities with external partners and manage the data in accordance with the University’s data management and ethics procedures
