Our Acute Medical Unit is looking for a passionate and caring receptionist staff to join their bright and friendly team.

The Acute Medical Unit is an assessment and admissions unit for acutely unwell patients. We treat emergency admissions from the A&E department and take direct referrals from GPs. Patients receive medical assessment and treatment before being admitted to the hospital for further treatment or discharged home.

Alongside the Acute Medical Unit we run a same day emergency care clinic. This is a 7 day run service where patients are seen as outpatients and referred by either the emergency department, the acute medical consultants, GP's or specialties where patient's require urgent review.

We have a senior nurse in charge of every shift for both the Acute Medical Unit and Same Day Emergency care clinic who is responsible for coordinating patient care and you will be liasing directly with the nurses when on duty.

You will be expected to carry out administrative and other mutually agreed duties to maintain the smooth running of the unit. To be responsible for the clerical activities which support the efficient functioning of the Acute Medical Unit and the same day emergency care clinic. Good communication and team working skills are essential to this position.

Greet and welcome all persons entering the ward, checking identification of staff requiring access to patient information.

Answer the telephone correctly by adhering to the Trusts telephone protocol.

Maintain good communication and relationships with patients/carers and members of the MDT.

Ensure the ward teletracking board is up to date and correct on a daily basis by entering admissions, ward attenders and discharges/transfers out of the unit.

Ensure that all medical case notes are tracked into the ward using the correct procedures

Assist in the timely organization of clinic patients, ensuring relevant case-notes

Deal with Ward post and distribute patient letters and read if requested by the patient.

Maintain medical case notes and ensure there is no loose filing, there are sufficient history sheets, that they are tidy and repaired as necessary, and problems are reported to the appropriate departments.

Ensure appropriate paperwork is completed for patients on their discharge, including discharge summary, outpatient appointments

To undertake all routine clerical duties required such as photocopying, filing, typing and minutes of ward meetings, as well as assist the Ward Manager in administrative tasks as is required

Organize transport for patients if required
