At a busy time for Defence, we are expanding our finance team at the SDA based at Barrow-in-Furness, looking for a Finance Business Partner to join our Key Supplier Management team.

As part of the senior team, you will be responsible for providing key financial support and assurance for future infrastructure investment projects. You will be required to implement adequate internal financial controls for new contracts, whilst delivering timely financial outputs to meet the wider SDA performance management reporting cycle. You will also be responsible for the co-ordination and assurance of cost modelling activity, using information provided by our Industry Parties.

As an experienced accountant, you will strategically be supporting the delivery of the service in accordance with Defence & National Security objectives, prioritising customer needs using your business acumen and commercial acumen providing decisions and insight on balancing customer and business demands and funding projects. You will understand project management techniques.

You will need to strategically lead a team, encourage a culture of imaginative thinking, learning from experience and expanding mindsets to challenge the status quo to continually drive for improved quality. This will require engagement with stakeholders, both internally and externally, and for you to create consensual solutions to drive and deliver outcomes in a way that identifies risks and to recommend clear, viable mitigating actions. This will be achieved by listening, understanding, and respecting the value of different views, ideas, and ways of working to make ongoing improvements to delivery successful, white bringing your stakeholders on the journey with you.

You will be based out of the location listed above in the advert, however the SDA support Smarter working, which empowers you to make decisions about when, where and how you work.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

- Provide accurate information and analysis that delivers deeper, valuable insights into the business and enables budget holders to make informed decisions
- Financial advisor to the Delivery Director and Management Board to enable an understanding of financial performance and provide a strategic level analysis of risks and opportunities, including mitigation options as appropriate and assurance of efficiency evidence
- Provide Budget Holders, Directors, Front Line Customers and Ministers with expert business-related advice on financial management, accounting issues and value for money
- Oversee the accurate representation of the Programme’s financial position within the financial accounts, including accruals and supporting evidence, through the use of DE&S systems
- Support and challenge budget holders constructively on their financial planning and forecasting activity to ensure budgets are taut, realistic and utilised effectively
- Advise on good financial management to contribute to good governance for DE&S, including audit, in accordance with the Business Management System
