**Job description for SDA Senior Cost Estimator**
Are you a Senior Cost Estimator excited by the opportunity to shape and define the project delivery of some of the biggest and complex defence programmes in the UK today? The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) are currently seeking an enthusiastic, driven and dynamic Senior Estimator to join our ever-expanding team at BAE Barrow-in-Furness.
Estimating is a vital part of what we do, ensuring the delivery of significant projects to our customers, on budget and on time.
As a Senior Cost Estimator, you will take a lead role within our estimating discipline to provide robust support within one of our complex project and portfolio collaborating with the SDA, Dreadnought Alliance and key industry supplier. You will use a wide range of skills and technical knowledge to provide guidance and leadership to both your team and customers whilst also supporting other Project Delivery teams with recruitment, training and development activities.

In this varied and challenging position, you will work as part of our Project Delivery team alongside Risk Management, Planning & Scheduling and more. You will provide key guidance alongside suppliers and stakeholders ensuring cost estimates outputs are interpreted correctly and communicated properly.
If you have a proven track record of delivering high standard estimates associated with a range of major complex projects and programmes, this could be the ideal role for you.
You will be expected to work on site 3 times a week, however this is being constantly reviewed so could change.
**Responsibilities for SDA Senior Cost Estimator**
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Maintain strategic stakeholder engagement by working closely with the delivery lead/function to identify strategic issues
- Oversee the quality assurance of estimates or model within the function to ensure they are fit for purpose
- Review and approve estimates for high profile projects, including the Basis of Estimate (BOE)
- Provide seniors and stakeholders with industrial insight and context relating to estimating and modelling scenarios, options and solutions
- Communicate complex estimate and risk modelling data to key member of the SDA leadership in a way that is easy to interpret, with clear recommendations. Provides advice and guidance to estimating or modelling staff within their function on novel and contentious problems
- Assist in the development of the cost estimating profession both within SDA and externally at events accredited by professional bodies
- Can communicate with and Influence Leadership at all levels in SDA and Supply chain within the estimating technical field.
**Person specification**
- Experience of cost estimating in a project/programme environment
- Broad understanding of one or more of the following - Risk Management, Cost Control or Planning & Scheduling
- Experience reviewing and approving estimates for projects, including the Basis of Estimate (BoE)
- Knowledge and experience in the use of cost analyst tools and techniques
It would also be great if you can demonstrate any of the following desirable criteria:
- Willingness to work towards gaining a relevant qualification
