A temporary position for 2 years to the fostering and placement team has arisen. It’s a key front line duty role, often the first voice heard when contacting fostering in Gwynedd. As one of the duty officers and a key coordinator in placement finding, learning and development alongside the current placement duty officer and recruitment and retention officer.

We are a very friendly and supportive team, whilst the role will be demanding we provide excellent cross team support and effective positive line management to support your development in the role.

**Skills and specialist knowledge**:

Knowledge about the needs of children in need.

Konwledge of The children Act 1989 and the National Minimum Standards for Fostering.

Sensitivity, flexibility and the ability to work as a member of a team.

An understanding of and a commitment to anti oppressive and anti racist practice.

The ability to analyse and record events clearly and accurately.

The ability to produce good quality reports in Welsh and English

A current driving licence

The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

**Listening and Speaking - Higher Level**:
Able to follow a conversation or discussion through the medium of Welsh and English on a professional level and discuss general day to day topics in the field in order to present information and express opinions.Able to give a pre-prepared presentation and respond to any comments and questions on it in Welsh or English.

**Reading and Understanding - Higher Level**:
Able to understand standard written Welsh and English; both formal and informal.Able to gather information from various sources such as letters, reports, articles through the medium of Welsh and English in order to fulfil the post.

**Writing - Higher Level**:
Present written information confidently by letter, more detailed and technical report formats, and respond to written requests conveying information, ideas and opinion in Welsh and English (help is available to check the work).

**Purpose of the post**:

- Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the centre of everything we do.
- Receive referrals to the Fostering Team from members of the public, foster parents and social workers in order to ensure effective service provision for children and their families.
- The main purpose of the post is to work as a line of contact when finding and searching for placements by following a specific process of risk assessment and matching children's needs.
- The post holder will also offer support over the telephone to foster parents when fostering social workers are not available.

- To receive referrals, record in accordance with guidelines and respond to the referrals in accordance with service procedures.
- Record information about cases appropriately and inform the Team workers as is appropriate.
- Provide and find placements for children in need, either within the team's resources or resources provided by independent agencies.
