Maternity support workers are central to quality care and information provision working alongside midwives and the wider professional teams to achieve excellence in maternity care.

We are seeking enthusiastic, hard-working, flexible individuals to assist us to provide the best care at all times. We have a a mixture of antenatal, postnatal and birthing wards where our support workers can work. The role can include duties such as breastfeeding support, maternal observations, stocking up the ward area and some cleaning duties.If you feel you have the qualities to suit the role and would like to make a difference, then consider joining our excellent service.

We are happy to consider part-time/full-time applicants. We plan to interview at the end of November.

**Please note**: This role includes unsocial hours working, including night shifts and weekends.

As a member of the maternityteamyou will support andclosely workwith registered midwives to deliver ahighstandardofcaretowomeninacaringandsafeenvironment.Toworkaspartofthewider teamindevelopingandmaintainingservicesprovidedtowomenandcontributetothesafe,efficientandsmooth running of the ward/clinical area. Tomaintainthe dignity and privacy of all women and respect their right toconfidentiality.

The role of the Maternity Support Worker is highly valued within the Trust. There is a clear career pathway for those wishing to develop beyond that of a Foundation Maternity Support Worker, including apprenticeship schemes, Senior Support Worker Roles and other career development opportunities. We support all new support workers to complete their Care Certificate within the first few months of joining. Once this, local competencies and e-learning are completed, staff will be moved to a Band 3

For those working with us, we have a named Maternity Psychologist 3 days a week to support all staff, as well as 15 Professional Midwifery Advocates to support staff. For those wishing to develop their careers and skills, we have a core Practice Development Team who can guide staff with their career options and development opportunities. We strive to ensure every member of our team feels valued and to have the confidence to speak up and be heard.

We truly believe that supporting our staff to feel happy and well-supported within their work environment, will ensure the best quality of care for the birthing people who access our services.

As a member of the maternity team, you will support and closely work with registered midwives and sonographers to deliver a high standard of care to women in a caring and safe environment. To work as part of the wider ward team in developing and maintaining services provided to women and contribute to the safe, efficient and smooth running of the ward/clinical area. To maintain the dignity and privacy of all women and respect their right to confidentiality.

To complete and maintain on an ongoing basis a generic and specific portfolio of clinical competencies and/or the Care Certificate as required. To review progress with line manager at regular intervals and
through the appraisal process. Understand own level of responsibility, scope of practice and accountability in relation to registered staff. All policies must also be adhered to at all times.

All new in role, Nursing Assistants, Theatre Support Workers, Maternity Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners will be expected to achieve the Care Certificate within the first 12 weeks of employment if they have not already done so through previous employment. The Care Certificate
consists of 15 standards that set out explicit learning outcomes, competences and standards of behaviour that are expected of a Nursing Assistant. The Oxford University Hospitals Support Worker Academy team deliver an enhanced and extended induction programme, this to facilitate
the training and education required to maintain quality assurance, support and guidance to ensure timely completion and compliance.
