We are seeking to appoint 3 highly motivated individuals who would relish the opportunity to practice in the Adult Learning Disability Service within LPFT as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

LPFT’s adult learning disability service, provides specialist health support to people with learning disabilities who require assessment and/or treatment for their physical and mental health, including support with behaviours of concern. The adult learning disability service operates from three multi-disciplinary hubs, across Lincolnshire, which delivers a range of specialist provision as well as a county-wide community home assessment and treatment team.

The post holder will work together with the Consultant Psychiatrists for the service to support the behaviour of concern and mental health pathways, with a commitment to the STOMP/STAMP pledges. You will therefore ideally have experience of working with patients who have a learning disability. The post holder will have an advanced level of autonomy, providing clinical leadership at all levels and will work in partnership with patients, their carer’s and internal/external colleagues within the MDT to deliver high quality, evidence based health management. ACPs in LPFT are not purely clinical however: research and education activities are part of your job plan. Through these endeavours, the post holder will support the development of, and drive improvements in, the care for patients with a learning disability and colleagues’ skillsets within the service and relevant sections of the Lincs ICB. We are actively involved with Universities across the midlands, supporting clinical training and research.We are committed to staff development and the post holder will receive regular management and clinical supervision along with relevant training to meet recommended NICE guidelines. We have an active ACP journal club and our strategic vision for ACP places us as a front runner in this field amongst mental health trusts.

Whilst a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner, the trainee will develop the skills and knowledge required to undertake the role as outlined below.

The ACP role is a national role, transferable across organisations. Therefore, the role will follow that national format which includes the 4 pillars of practice.

Clinical Practice
- Develop advanced clinical knowledge to independently assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatments and interventions with patients presenting to the service with complex undifferentiated or undefined presentations.
- Participate in/ observe physical and mental health examination as indicated by the presenting individuals condition; enabling the development of skills to autonomously analyse complex clinical signs and investigation results, considering differential diagnoses and diagnose conditions, initiating treatment as required.
- Participate in / observe clinical procedures appropriate to the history and physical examination of the presenting individual including further invasive testing and treatments requiring highly developed skills and precision.
