Job summary

Trainee Dosimetrist Practitioner

Do you have an interest in science and think you would like to working in radiotherapy ? We are looking for someone to join the dosimetry team as a trainee and work on range of things from creating radiation treatment plans to measuring radiation doses all using high tech equipment.

During the training you will complete a degree at University of West of England (UWE) as part of a level 6 apprenticeship resulting in a (Hons) in Healthcare Science (degree appenticeship). The practical work will be completed at Lincoln County Hospital with attendance at UWE for only a few weeks per year. Information about the programme is available through the National School for Healthcare Sciences website. Details of the degree can be found on the UWE website. The training is for a three year period starting September 2024 to August 2027. It is expected that there will be an opportunity to apply for a permanent post at the end of this period.

What we're looking for

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is keen to learn, and possesses the qualifications suitable to enrol with UWE for the Healthcare Science degree apprenticeship course in dosimetry. Interested candidates should be able to demonstrate an aptitude for science, and be able to commence the role from 31st August, in order to meet the University course dates. Please refer to the person specification in the Job Description for qualifications required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a trainee within the specialist planning team engaged in producing treatment plans for delivering radiation therapy and Quality Assurance of the systems used. Once fully trained, he/she is required to perform to extremely high standards of accuracy and safety in order that the service operates efficiently and safely. The post-holder works in a highly specialised area which requires consideration of the risks of radiation, cross infection, manual handling, COSHH and electrical safety

Qualifications

Essential

Sufficient points to gain admission to the UWE degree level apprenticeship course Healthcare Science (Dosimetrist). 112-120 tariff points from maximum of 3 A-levels, to include A-level in Physics with minimum of 40 points Evidence of study at GCSE level, achieving grade C/4 in English Language, and grade B/5 in Mathematics and Science.
