**Your role**

**Customer-facing sales team representative working with Account Managers / Account Director focused on named accounts in the Western region which includes UK, France, and other countries. Perform technical tasks, including written proposals, network design and engineering and quotes. Must be able to communicate solutions to customers and manage ongoing technical relationship. Also work with internal Ciena organization to drive product requirements and provide customer feedback to product management.**

**Responsibilities**:

- Work with customer engineering teams to design Ciena optical network solutions based on state-of-the-art fiber optics technology and ultra-high-capacity technologies.
- Have knowledge about Routing and Switching and be able to raise the right questions to identify Opportunities
- Drive the technical introduction of new products and concepts to the customer
- Analyze and evaluate the customer’s technical requirements, propose network architecture solutions, and respond to RFIs, RFPs and other customer requests
- Provide product and technical expertise to support Sales efforts of transmission, switching and data products and SDN Management systems
- Complete sophisticated network designs for customer using Ciena optical networking products.
- Expertise in using network design and modelling tools
- Accurate and timely generation of quotes, proposals, and detailed equipment lists
- Interface with sales group and product management/marketing to develop and/or propose product enhancements to meet customer requirements
- Influence Customer requirements and translate high-level customer requirements into Ciena system requirements
- Maintain and grow technical expertise, product knowledge and sales skills through ongoing training
- Understand competitor’s offerings and explain the technical advantages of Ciena's solutions.
- Serve as a consultant technical resource for customer related issues
- Act as the first-line support “Go-To” person for allocated sales opportunities
- < 20% travel required

**Required Skills**:

- Strong technical knowledge of core optical networking is a must including DWDM, ROADM, 100G/200G/400G transmission, OTN technologies and DCI Solutions
- Technical knowledge in data networking including understanding of IP/Ethernet and other data networking protocols
- Beneficial is the technical knowledge of Software Defined Networking, network orchestration Network Function Virtualization.
- Exhibit a high degree of presentation, interpersonal and communications skills
- Proven ability to work in a team oriented environment, taking on-board round table discussions on solution architecture
- Mentor other Systems Engineers
- Ability to respond to RFP’s and communicate technical quotations accurately
- Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks with mínimal supervision
- Fluent in English and another Language such as Spanish, Italian or Portuguese would be an advantage

**DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS**
- The ability to demonstrate leadership in technical sales activities
- Ability to understand customer needs and use technical expertise to develop customer solutions
- Ability to develop customer relationships and work well with customers
- Flexible individual that can handle multiple tasks with mínimal supervision
- Team player
- Technical Degree, BSEE or equivalent
- 5+ years of telecommunications industry experience, including optical networking experience
- Prior Systems / Sales Engineering experience would be a plus.
- Prior experience as a contributor on a sales account team
