We’re pleased to be recruiting for a Life Underwriter to join our New Business and Claims team, on a fixed-term basis of 12 months.

**About you**:

- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Be able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, while maintaining a high degree of accuracy, and meet tight deadlines
- Exhibit great administration skills, including the ability to manage, plan and prioritise your workload to adapt to customer needs
- Competently work on your own on complex cases, while also helping your team deliver on key targets
- Proactively consider the evolving needs of the business, and our changing industry
- Make pragmatic decisions and judgements on cases, in line with regulatory requirements and LV= values.
- Be numerical and literate, with a real eye for detail
- Have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Have established at least 3 years of experience in initial/full medical underwriting or claims assessment roles
- Demonstrate a good knowledge of Protection products
- CII exams in Life & Disability underwriting (or similar) - desirable
- CII exams in Health Claims (or similar) - desirable

**Details**:

- Making fair and balanced decisions using the appropriate evidence available, in an efficient and customer-focused way
- Providing concise and robust justifications of your decisions, and referring cases to third parties, including CMO and re-assurers when required, in an accurate and clear manner
- Utilising your excellent customer service skills to build and maintain relationships with customers and intermediaries
- Contributing ideas for the continuous improvement of the operational process, to aid the resourcing of the department as a whole, and enabling the area’s KPI’s to be met
- Providing suggestions and ideas to improve the customer journey
- Obtaining ongoing CPD by self-education, attending training seminars and industry events, and providing feedback to colleagues and other business areas as required
- Training, coaching and supporting to other members of the team
- Supporting projects and testing, where needed, to help support the business change plans
- Dealing with our range of products; Life, Critical Illness, Income Protection, TPD, Business Protection and Waiver of Premium (can be a limited set of products depending on business need and skills).

New Business Underwriting:

- Contributing suggestions and ideas to aid the development of our underwriting rules

Claims Assessment:

- Assessing Life and Disability claims in accordance with specified departmental procedures, and determining the level of benefit to be paid
- Managing claims with special regards to policy conditions, medical, financial and occupational evidence, authorising claims visits and use of private investigators (as appropriate).
