Boeing Defence UK is offering the opportunity to join their class leading SMS team in providing Product and Service Safety. The successful individual will be joining one of the best SMS teams in Europe who are helping to design and develop the wider Boeing SMS during what is an exciting time for the industry as SMS is expanded into new areas of aviation. The BDUK P&SS team of 20 experienced core specialists and deployed safety officials is looking for Deputy Chief Safety Investigator to join them as they expand their SMS.

Reporting to the BDUK Chief Safety Investigator and working closely with the both the Chief Safety Investigator and Safety Official Manager to undertake the oversight and governance of safety investigations within BDUK. This is a full time role with hybrid working options based at Boscombe Down, Middle Wallop, Odiham, Gosport or Bristol.

**Role and Responsibilities**:

- Deputise as the Safety Investigation mentor and lead practitioner to establish governance and standard setting for all safety investigations conducted by BDUK
- Act as the Lead investigator or mentor for BDUK safety investigations as directed by the BDUK Chief Safety Investigator.
- Support a governance and mentor programme to establish and maintain competency in all existing and new safety investigators.
- Support the CSI in interacting with and establishing forums at UK and Enterprise level for the sharing of regional and customer best practice amongst defence units and contracted organisations.
- Work closely with the BDUK Safety Reporting Lead to establish trending and the identification of repetitively weak barriers which should be targeted in the safety reporting tool and Incident XP tools.
- Actas the deputy management focal for safety investigation across BDUK you will need to coordinate safety investigation inputs into each of the relevant functional Safety Action Groups and Platform Safety Reviews.
- Work closely with the relevant Platform Safety Officials coordinate the tracking of identified safety investigation recommendations to closure.
- Support the lead owner of Safety Investigation metrics (design and management of).
- Work closely with the BDUK Safety Promotion and Training Lead to produce SMS Promotion campaigns based around the investigation team findings. These should also be fed back into appropriate SMS and HF training mediums.
- Deliver HF and SMS training for all staff as required.
- Horizon scanning to ensure best practice is applied.

Other job responsibilities may include providing assistance to the BDUK Core SMS team for SMS Design and Continuous Improvement providing support as necessary to other parts of the BDUK Safety Management System.

Travel within the UK is expected and some overseas travel may be required.

**Essential competencies**:

- HNC (minimum) in Engineering OR equivalent operator experience in flying or support to aviation activities such as maintenance.
- Experience in performing safety investigations (ideally at regional team level or as part of a dedicated aviation safety team)
- Cranfield Safety Accident / Investigation Training (Fundamentals and Applied)
- Significant investigation experience as part of a Regional team, dedicated investigator or DAIB/AAIB experience
- Experience with the use of common safety tools such as Risk Registers, Bow Ties including the use of Incident XP for safety investigation results
- Experience using MoD’s ASIMS/DASORs for in-service occurrence reporting and mandatory reporting of events to the military or civil authorities
- HF Instructor or Examiner experience
