**The Role**

As a Safeguarding Officer you will be responsible for the safeguarding process and ensuring that MOD operational assets and interests including aerodromes, explosive storage sites, transmitter facilities and, offshore danger & exercise areas facilities on the UK mainland and offshore are not compromised by development.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the established DIO Estate Safeguarding Team and the wider Estate’s network of highly skilled Administrative Officers, Managers and Surveyors, delivering support and advice to a wide range of customers. Each day is different and varied - no 2 days are the same.

Experience and passion for teamwork is essential to ensure all areas of work are completed to a satisfactory standard, coupled with the ability to be individually motivated to support wider team objectives.

**DIO Business Area - Estates**

The Defence estate is one of the largest landholdings in the UK and covers an estimated 1.8% of the UK land mass (200,000+ ha). This is complemented by a significant UK Defence presence overseas.

Estates are the in-house real estate team within the DIO (part of the UK Ministry of Defence) supporting infrastructure needs across a high-profile Public Estate. We acquire, manage, safeguard, and dispose of Defence real estate. Our unique customer knowledge and insight of the Defence Estate enables our in-house team of property professionals to provide in-depth advice to our Military customers.

**The Team**

DIO Estates - Specialist Teams includes Chartered Surveyors, Registered Valuers and Safeguarding Officers who, between them, provide comprehensive land, estate and property management services to the Overseas Estate, Estate wide Valuation & Rating Services and Safeguarding of Defence assets and operational capabilities.

The Safeguarding team sit within Specialist Teams and are the MOD lead for the formal consultation process through which MOD is engaged on development proposals from house extensions to nuclear power plants, from solar farms to oil rigs and offshore windfarms. The team covers the whole of the UK and can offer advice to operational overseas sites. The team provides advice on relevant requirements to guide MOD development on existing sites; enabling a more effective use of the retained estate; the disposal of MOD sites without compromising capabilities; estate acquisitions; safeguarding new technologies, assets, and capabilities.

**Person specification**:
The responsibilities of the role are:

- Formulate responses to Local Planning Authorities.
- Stakeholder and customer engagement.
- Provide support to the Safeguarding team with administrative functional Safeguarding tasks.

If travelling outside your base location for duty reasons, you will have access to flights, hire cars, rail tickets and overnight accommodation. You can also claim 45 pence per mile should you choose to use your own vehicle for business travel.

All employees work in accordance with the established DIO approach to hybrid working (an informal, non-contractual arrangement, blending attendance in the office or on-site and working remotely) and will be provided with IT equipment, desk, and chair to facilitate remote working and any other equipment needed for you to undertake your role.
