Each post will combine 50% clinical work in the emergency department with 50% dedicated time to work on one or more of the Trust’s priority Improvement or Innovation projects. Applications for less than full time posts will also be considered. Salary will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ stage of clinical training.

In the Emergency Department, you will be responsible for the initial assessment and management of unselected acutely ill and injured patients (both adult and paediatric). Clinical shifts are undertaken on a full shift, annualised rota in either of the Trusts Emergency Departments. This allows a mix of Major Trauma and teaching hospital experience alongside more local ED type presentations.

As a clinical Fellow in the ED you will contribute to the supervision and training of more junior doctors (GP trainees, ACCS and FY2 doctors).

He/she/they will assist with clinical administration, for example, checking X-ray reports, corresponding with patients and their general practitioners. He/she/they will have opportunities to participate in the department’s Clinical Governance activities, including departmental audit, and national audits required by the Healthcare Commission. He/she/they will also be expected to attend departmental teaching sessions. He/she/they will be responsible for keeping his/her/their resuscitation training up to date.

IMPROVEMENT & INNOVATION

As an Oxford Quality Improvement and Innovation Fellow you will receive coaching and mentoring from an expert in QI within the Integrated Quality Improvement Team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. You will join other Fellows as a member of a facilitated Action Learning Set over the duration of your placement.

Oxford Improvement & Innovation Fellows will join and contribute to a growing community of QI practitioners in the Trust, including through participation in formal QI training as learner and/or educator, depending on learning needs and experience. You will be encouraged and supported to present your work at both internal and external events and, if appropriate, to write up their project(s) for publication in a peer reviewed QI journal.
