Media & Communications Officer

**Media & Communications Officer - Inside IR35**
**Contract Term: 6 Months**
**Contracting Authority: Department for Education**
**Location: Hybrid - Remote & 2x p/w in London, Manchester, Sheffield, Coventry or Darlington.**
This role provides independent communications support to the national Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel (the Panel). The Panel is a statutory, independent “expert committee” comprised of multi-disciplinary experts and its key statutory function is to conduct national reviews into serious child safeguarding incidents, thereby identifying learning and advising ministers on child safeguarding practice. Driving improved practice helps improve outcomes and services for vulnerable children and families. This aligns with the Secretary of State’s cross-cutting priority of improving outcomes for the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people and the Department’s 2021 spending review outcomes 3 and 4.
The original role was created in February 2020 to provide the Panel with an independent voice to speak to media, thereby allowing for greater transparency and scrutiny by decoupling the Panel’s communications from the DfE central communications team ahead of the publication of the Panel’s first high-profile national review.
**As a Media & Communications Officer your main responsibilities would be to**:
- Handle proactive & reactive communications & stakeholder engagement - inc. responding to journalist queries.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Panel - prepare & advise members on media interviews.
- Build strong collaborative relationships - communicating with a range of stakeholders on behalf of the National Review Panel, with confidence and professional credibility.
- Assist the timely announcement of the Panel’s next national reviews, draft press releases & work with a range of stakeholders to secure their support.
- Managing social media. Organising virtual & in-person events for Panel Members.
-
**You’ll have relevant experience in**:
- Demonstrable Media & Communications experience within public sector organisations.
- Expert stakeholder management skills - inc. journalists.
- Strong organisational skills - resilient & flexible with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of children’s social care / child protection - desirable.
**Should you require reasonable adjustments at any point during the recruitment process or if there is a more accessible way for us to communicate, please do let me know.**
**If you consider yourself to have a disability or if you are a veteran, and you meet the essential criteria for the role, PSR provides a ‘Guaranteed Interview’ scheme whereby you will have the opportunity to discuss this role and your suitability with a member of our PSR Sourcing team. If you qualify, please notify us on**
**and we will be in touch.**- Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas._
