The post holder will work closely with and be supported by the Safeguarding Leadership team and other members of the Trust’s Safeguarding Team to ensure that the Trust meets its statutory responsibilities in regard to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults as defined in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) The Children’s Act (1989 & 2004) and The Care Act (2014).

The post holder will act as a point of contact for children, young people, families, adults and their carers, health professionals and partner agencies that have safeguarding/child and adult protection concerns; using the ‘think family’ approach, advising partner agencies on health matters with regard to safeguarding children and adults both in the hospital and community setting. This will be with the support and under the supervision of the specialist lead nurse/professional.

The safeguarding team currently includes the following specialities; Adults, Children, Maternity and Learning Disability and/or Autism so the post holder will the opportunity to work in these areas within the safeguarding team as workload dictates. The post holder will be supported in this work.

The post holder must be able to make considered judgements about how to act to safeguard and promote the families welfare using the ‘think family’ approach and be able to instigate measures to reduce the risk of significant harm. This will be with the support and under the supervision of the specialist lead nurse/professional.

The post holder will actively encourage and support staff to adopt a ‘think family’ approach and consider the needs of dependants and the wider impacts, when providing care.

The post holder will advise, inform and escalate safeguarding concerns to the Lead Nurse/ Professional for Adults and Children/ Lead Nurse for Safeguarding People/Assistant Director of Nursing for Safeguarding regarding all matters of safeguarding as appropriate.

The post holder, with the support of the wider Safeguarding Team will take an active role in the provision of Safeguarding Training. The impact of this will be to ensure the workforce is sufficiently upskilled to recognise and respond to abuse and neglect following Safeguarding policy and procedure.

The post holder will promote health and social well-being and thereby contribute to a reduction in health inequalities, through the provision of a range of health education.

The post holder will work within the Safeguarding Team and the wider Multi-Agency Team to provide effective communication and liaison with other acute providers to ensure our patients, service users and staff are safeguarded.
