**Information for applicants**

**The Post**

Hills Road Sixth Form College has operated a specialist Guidance team for over ten years now. This means that we have a dedicated team of tutors who look after the guidance and support needs of our 2,600 students. Tutors oversee and monitor students’ progress, their attendance, their support needs, their well-being and consider each student’s experience at the College holistically. Tutors are supported in this work by two Heads of Year, who are in turn each supported by a Safeguarding and Welfare Officer. All are available to deal with ongoing and immediate safeguarding concerns that may arise on a day-to-day basis.

The Guidance Team also includes the College counsellors and wellbeing coordinators and is led by the Guidance Leadership Team. This team consists of the Assistant Principal (Student Progression and Support), two Heads of Year and the Head of Student Personal Development, who meet once a week to discuss the strategic and operational needs of the guidance elements of College and to consider case studies of students in particular need. The Safeguarding team, of which the appointee will be a part, also meet regularly to discuss a wide range of issues relating to students’ support and guidance. The Assistant Principal is the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the College and is supported in this role by the Heads of Year and the Safeguarding and Welfare Officers.

In addition to the term time contract, the successful applicant may be required to work for two days at the end of August to help with Year 12 enrolment. This will be paid in addition to the basic salary or can be taken as time off in lieu.

**Accommodation and Resources**

The Safeguarding and Welfare Officers share an office next to the Student Services team. Each safeguarding and welfare officers has a dedicated phone line and personal laptop to allow easy access to them for communicating important information in relation to a student’s circumstances and potential progress.

**Training and Support**

A full induction and training programme will be available for this post to guide new colleagues through and beyond their first year of operation. This will cover all aspects of the Safeguarding and Welfare officer’s role, such as monitoring and recording using our ProMonitor software, liaising with parents and a range of external agencies and a whole range of technical and knowledge areas that we will be glad to support you with. We need you to be someone who is genuinely committed to helping young people realise their potential in any number of ways. We want you to be passionate about helping them to lead happy and fulfilling lives whatever that may take and however creative you might need to be in finding solutions that work for them.

With best wishes
