**The** **Great Central Railway** is the UK's only double track, main line heritage railway. It’s the only place in the world where full size steam engines can be seen passing each other - just as it was when steam ruled the rails.

Trains run every weekend of the year, bank holidays and selected week days through the summer. In addition, First Class Restaurant Car Services provide five-course meals whilst travelling between Loughborough and Leicester. Childhood dreams can come true with a Drive a Locomotive Experience when you can take the regulator on a mighty steam locomotive or notch up on a powerful diesel. We also run many special events, including **Steam Galas, Paw Patrol, Bonfire Night, 1940s Wartime Weekend **and **Santa Specials.**

Joining our team of paid and volunteer staff, you will be helping to preserve the railway for future generations.

**Train Service Delivery Supervisor**

**Roles and Responsibilities**

**Job Summary**:
The Service Delivery Supervisor is key for the delivery of the fundamentals of the GCR visitor experience. Clean, well-presented facilities are a basic expectation of visitors to any attraction, one that will colour the overall perception of their experience. The role of the Service Delivery team is to provide clean, serviced trains on every operating day, including some weekends, support the delivery of special events, manage minor maintenance and projects for our building estate as well as support to other departments as required.

**1. Key Tasks and Responsibilities**:
a) Lead the Service Delivery team (Service Delivery Assistant and volunteers) on a day-to-day basis

b) Maintain high standards of external and internal train presentation of all passenger rolling stock

c) Train servicing (water, battery charging, gas etc.)

d) Support the Traffic Manager as required, including completion and issue of PL1 Forms

e) Caretaking duties, including building repairs and maintenance, utility readings etc.

f) Carriage & Wagon department support

g) Ordering cleaning supplies, gas etc. and manage central stores

h) Arrange short notice cover as required

i) Support special event delivery as required

j) General business support (e.g. moving furniture and equipment between sites etc.)

k) Short notice cover for operational roles as required

l) Constantly vigilant of the potential safety hazards associated with an operational railway

m) Duty Traffic Manager duties as required

n) Cover for key customer roles, including Drive a Train Experience and Welcome Hosts as directed

o) Set-up and support for charter trains and other functions, including tables and chairs etc.

p) Unlocking and locking of Loughborough Central and other stations/buildings as needed

**2. Uniform & Personal Presentation**

Consistent with a key customer focussed role, the postholder should be smartly presented, appropriate to the type of work being undertaken. This can include suitable railway uniform or other smart clothing.

PPE to worn as required.

**3. Person Specification**:
**Essential (minimum) personal qualities, knowledge or experience**
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for delivering excellent service to GCR visitors and colleagues, both volunteers and employees
- Medical fitness to be a shunter/Guard/other operational roles
- The ability to work evenings and weekends at special events and as required is essential as we are a seven day a week organisation with trains operating every weekend
- Ability to work unsupervised

**Desirable personal qualities, knowledge or experience**
- Passion for heritage railways and an understanding of the importance of preserving this unique part of our cultural heritage and history
- General handyman capabilities
- The ability to work evenings and weekends at special events and as required is essential as we are a seven day a week organisation with trains operating every weekend
- Competent Shunter, Guard, Shunter Driver, Signalman

**7. Hours of work**:37.5 hours per week, including weekend and evenings as required

**8. Salary**:Competitive dependent on experience
