**Service Description**

Better Futures is a new organisation that specialises in providing salient care and support for children and young people that have suffered complex trauma and associated needs. Our ethos is to provide unwavering child centred care that exceeds the needs of the children to make a positive change to their lives.

The home is a large family property situated in Bradford and provides care for up to 4 young people. The home is currently going through OFSTED registration, and you will work closely with the manager to make the house a home for our children.

**Job Purpose**
- To provide a supportive and nurturing environment in accordance with company Policies and Procedures.
- To lead by example and maintain good professional practices in accordance with legislation and guidance.
- To be held accountable for the safety and wellbeing of our young people, whilst on shift with them.
- To help create a supportive and positive environment for each young person with reference to his or her safety, health, and education.
- To act as a surrogate parent with professional boundaries.

**General Duties**
- Ensure safeguarding of all young people underpins every decision made.
- To contribute to the young person’s care plans and risk assessments, their review and implementation.
- To contribute to the educational and social development of each young person.
- To form effective relationships with young people, their families (if appropriate) and external agencies to ensure that:

- To meet the emotional and physical needs of our young people and maximise opportunities for their development.
- To ensure that young people’s views and wishes are sought and acted upon where appropriate.
- To ensure that good quality records are maintained as required with supervision and advice from shift and Managers.
- To create a caring and positive environment for each young person regarding their safety, health, and education.
- To undertake a ‘key worker’ role with young people as required.
- To undertake cooking and domestic duties as would a ‘good parent’.
- To dispense, record and administer medication as required.
- To inform colleagues of relevant developments and communications i.e., during handover.
- To maintain and promote residential care work to high levels of professionalism expected by company.
- To ensure high quality supervision of young people, ensuring their individual safety and well-being is closely monitored.
- To support the Manager in the preparation, implementation, review and updating of Placement Plans and risk assessments and monitoring progression.
- To identify problems and service deficiencies by the continuous review of young people’s needs and make recommendations for improvement.

**Person Specification**

**Qualifications and Education**
- QCF Level 3 Residential Childcare/Level 3 Diploma Children and Young People’s Workforce or equivalent.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services in the children and young people’s residential management pathway (either obtained or willing to work towards)

**Experience**
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a position relevant to the residential care of children

**Knowledge and understanding**
- Children’s Home Regulations and Quality Standards 2015, Single Social Care Inspection Framework (SSCIF), Children Act 1989, Children and Families Act 2014, Care Standards Act 2000, Children Act 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015, Health and Safety at work and associated guidance and regulation.
- Policies and procedures pertaining to running a residential children’s home.
- Child protection, safeguarding children, impact of abuse and neglect, education, and health needs of looked after children, equality and diversity and children’s rights.
- Care and placement planning, risk, and review processes.
- Understanding of the education, health, social, emotional, and psychological needs of looked after children and young people and how to ensure these needs are met.

**Salary**: £29,433.00-£32,373.00 per year
