As a key member of the Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) the post holder will be required to engage and work alongside senior medical staff, nursing staff, and other health professionals and partner organisations within the Cancer Alliance across the patient journey

The post holder will be required to work with senior managers across clinical divisions, Performance Directorate and Information Directorate to ensure that National Cancer Access targets are met.

The post holder will co-ordinate the work of one or more MDT’s to ensure that there is effective co-operation between departments and directorates involved in the delivery of cancer services including:
- Using Trust information systems for recording and reporting of clinical performance date in accordance with the Trust’s IT Strategy

Actively monitoring waiting times for individual cancer patients to ensure that targets are not breached. This is achieved by negotiating patients management arrangements with the responsible staff

Support service improvement alongside the MDT to streamline the patient journey and improve the quality of patient care

Administer the MDT meeting in accordance with Cancer Services Measures
- Co-ordinate the administrative pathway of patients with suspected/confirmed diagnosis of cancer, providing a link across specialties and directorates
- Develop systems to ensure rapid communication and effective co-ordination between all members of the MDT
- Monitor and manage cancer waiting times by proactively identifying risks and take corrective action to ensure that CWT targets are met
- Ensure that all steps on the patient pathway are booked as appropriate
- Re-schedule investigations and treatments to facilitate achievement of national targets including forewarning clinicians and managers of the risk of a forthcoming breach of targets so that measures can be put into place to avoid actual breaches
- Work with respective teams and develop robust processes for the capture of Cancer Outcomes Dataset, National Clinical Audits and National Waiting Times Working with
- The MDT’s including consultant medical staff, senior nurses and other healthcare professionals
- Members of the Trust Cancer Services team including Service Improvement Facilitators, Cancer Services Manager and Lead Clinicians
- Cancer Information Team
- Related staff in other trusts

- Provide administrative support for MDT meetings, ensuring that the facilities are booked and a programme of meetings is made available to team members
- Liaise with clinical and administrative staff across directorates and the network to develop MDT meeting lists
- Implement systems to insure that the information necessary for effective team functioning is available at each meeting
- Attend each MDT and control the use of video conferencing, projection systems and computer systems as needed. Display data and record treatment and management plans, obtaining agreement from clinical staff.
- Ensure that action plans created are produced and recorded for each patient discussed at the MDT meetings and communicate this information to the relevant person within 24 hours
