**Job summary**:
We seek to appoint a dynamic, motivated, and enthusiastic registered nurse, Operating department practitioner or midwife to join the Infection Prevention and Control team at University Hospitals Birmingham
- Heartlands Hospital.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the quality of care and improve outcomes for patients.

You will be a registered Practitioner with a recognised infection prevention and Control qualification or a willingness to undertake this qualification. You will have current experience in improving practice in infection prevention and control locally, have experience of delivering education to colleagues and demonstrate your commitment to continual professional development.

As part of a responsive team, you will be a strong role model for infection prevention and control and with support of the senior nursing team, provide advice for health care services within UHB. Working autonomously, you will inspire and influence staff, empowering them to ensure that IPC policies and procedures are fulfilled, and evidence based and support in making improvements.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The main duties of the job involve providing specialist infection control advice to patients and staff. You will be a point of contact for information and advice for the patient, family and carers and all staff involved in the care of patients.

You will be required to support the development of staff caring for patients through formal and informal education, practice development and role modelling.

As a CNS you will practice under the direction of the band 7 senior IPCN and lead nurse team, working towards achieving agreed levels of competence, skills and knowledge to enable independent autonomous practice within their scope of clinical practice.

You will need to have good time management skills be able to undertake several duties autonomously as well as working with in a large team. Good communication skills are essential.

In conjunction with other relevant clinical staff the post holder will assist with clinical development in maintaining and improving all aspects of clinical governance, evidence-based practice and quality assurance and monitoring within the service.

In the role you will need to use a range of techniques to ensure and monitor standards of infection prevention and control are met. Through clinical practice, audit, research, and teaching to continually improve the standards of care and patient experience.

The IPC team are there to ensure safe and effective clinical practice, enhance patient experience and ensure delivery of organisational objectives.
