The Neurosciences Spinal Surgery and Neurosurgical surgical service comprises of 5 elective theatres and 1 acute theatre on the LGI site providing theatre capacity for adult and paediatric spinal surgery and adult cranial surgery. In addition to elective theatres at Chapel Allerton Hospital. The service also uses operating capacity at a number of other NHS hospitals and independent sector providers in the West Yorkshire region. There are up to 20 theatre lists running each week within the service.

There are currently 24 consultant surgeons working within the service. The post holder will develop and maintain close working relationships with the surgeons, the wider directorate clinical teams, the neurosciences management team, the wider neurosciences administration team and external organisations. CORE BEHAVIOURS AND SKILLS To have a strong working knowledge of the patient care process in hospital. Knowledge of medical terminology.

Good working knowledge of the roles of other Waiting List Coordinators, to enable support and cross-cover arrangements in their absence. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with members of the clinical teams treating spinal patients. The ability to accurately retrieve data from electronic and paper data sources and validate against other sources. Good keyboard skills accurate data input and typing.

Excellent attention to detail. To prioritise workload and work to deadlines. The ability to process and check large sets of data, running quality checks to identify any gaps in individual patient records and ensuring all missing data is retrieved and entered into the database. The skills to have the flexibility and confidence to work independently unsupervised and on own initiative in departments and clinics across the two hospital sites.

The ability to liaise with various specialist teams, clinical coders, medical records staff, pathologists, radiologists etc. both within LTHT and those in external organisations. The skills to ensure suitability and practicality of new computerised systems, evaluating them at the discretion of the management, and checking whether these meet the needs of collation and collection of minimum datasets. CORE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Knowledge and understanding of Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust patient access policy Knowledge and understanding of Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust theatre scheduling guidelines and policies Knowledge and understanding of a range of local standard operating procedures for theatre scheduling with neurosciences Knowledge of Trust-wide and local administrative systems including Patient Administration System (PAS), PPM+, OrderComms (ICE), Excel, Theatre Management System (TMS) PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY To provide administrative facilitation to MDT meetings, including preparing, organising, and circulating agendas/lists of patients for discussion, and ensuring MDTs run as smoothly as possible to reach their full potential in discussing all spinal service patients.
