An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon & Gloucestershire Cancer Alliance (SWAG) as the Business and Communications Officer. The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering improvements in the experience and outcomes for cancer across the Alliance.

The post holder will support the Alliance team ensuring that effective business processes (including personnel, budget and stakeholder management) are in place and will be responsible for developing and delivery of all aspects of the Alliance’s communications strategy; which will include the Alliance website and our social media presence, where appropriate.

This is a busy, varied role in which the post holder will work autonomously, exercising judgment and initiative, with excellent written and verbal skills.

A knowledge and confident ability to use technology to support hybrid meetings is required. This role is a mixture of office based and working from home.

The post holder will need to demonstrate a calm, professional, flexible approach to this busy role.

The main duties of the role include
- To establish the communication plans/strategy for the Alliance including managing the relationships with all relevant stakeholders
- To establish the reporting arrangements for the Alliance ensuring that reporting is maintained accurately and in a timely manner
- To support Alliance staff with presentations to large groups
- Support the Managing Director and Alliance Programme Manager run the Alliance Board/s efficiently including preparing pre-Board and post-Board communications.

The SWAG Cancer Alliance is developing a work plan which prioritises delivery of the recommendations within the LTP (Long Term Plan) for cancer.
- The Cancer Alliance aims to strengthen collaborative working to:

- Develop a unified vision for cancer services across SWAG and in accordance with the Cancer LTP.
- Establish consistency of standards for pathway management, clinical protocols and provision of cancer treatments.
- Better manage diagnostic capacity to improve cancer waiting times.
- Reduce costs through reducing duplication and variation.
- Enhance patient experience.
- Maximise research and training across the system
- Ensure meaningful engagement with the public and patients and
- other key partners on the development and their delivery of their plans.
- Share learning

Delivering High Standards
- Deliver effective business processes for the Alliance including personnel, budget support and stakeholder management.

Key Working Relationships
- The post holder will be required to maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services and initiatives to provide, information and analytical advice and expertise.
- Develop and implement data collection systems that will provide accurate and timely data.
- Support presentation of information and issues, explaining highly complex issues, to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- To liaise with others to share best practice.
