- This is a rewarding and challenging role that will give you the opportunity to support governors at our college as a Governance Officer._
- Reporting to the Chair of Governors, your principle role will be to provide support for meetings of the Board and its committees, which will include attending all meetings and producing detailed minutes. The role does not stop there however, as you will use your experience and knowledge of Board procedures to offer guidance and support to ensure that meetings are productive and that the Board’s work is carried out effectively. As most committee meetings take place remotely, you must be confident and competent in MS Teams and be able to facilitate online meetings effectively, supporting committee members as needed._
- Your ability to capture discussions accurately and produce high quality minutes will be essential, but equally important will be your professionalism and ability to read and respond appropriately to different situations. You will work closely with the Principal and their PA and the governing body._
- Previous experience as a Clerk or working within governance in the education sector (ideally FE/Sixth Form) is essential. As is excellent communication and organisational skills with a commitment to learning, an ability to work with integrity whilst establishing yourself as an integral member of a team are key qualities we are looking for._
- Flexibility of working hours will be required to accommodate the Board’s activity but generally meetings will be planned several months in advance - we anticipate the role to be around 600 hours per year which can be worked around the needs of the Board and various committees. The majority of committee meetings will take place during college term time, normally after the college day so the ability to work early evening is essential. Meetings could take place virtually or on site so you will be expected to attend site regularly. This role will mostly be home based (IT equipment will be provided if necessary) and as such you must be able to work under your own initiative and be self-motivated._
