The post holder will lead on education and training, improvement projects and service developments, with the aim of transforming how we respond to people in mental health crisis, and to people living with dementia. Leading a small team working with operational and wider organisational services, you will lead our work across WASUT/Wales, be the champion for mental health and dementia and connect with all Health Boards, police forces, the voluntary sector, Welsh Government and other organisations that can support us to support people presenting in crisis.
A core element of this role will be clinical leadership and supervision to our mental health professionals in the 999 Clinical Support Service. While this team predominantly works remotely, we are expecting the service to evolve to offer blended remote and face to face care for 999 callers as Right Care Right Person becomes embedded in Wales.

The Consultant Clinician for Mental Health will be accountable for ensuring effective professional clinical leadership and clinical excellence within the organisation’s national delivery and roll out of Mental Health services. They will be responsible for ensuring the on-going development of the Mental Health service, ensuring the management of all patients coming through remote clinical telephone triage (hear and treat) meets corporate objectives.

The Consultant Clinician for Mental Health will lead and influence the setting of clinical direction for Mental Health ‘hear and treat’ and ‘see and treat’ services for the organisation. They will be required to interpret national policy and new legislation, understanding its impact on the organisation and the profession, and influence how it is implemented within the organisation.

They will be clinically accountable for the care of all Mental Health patients presenting to the organisation and therefore will be responsible for ensuring clinically effective delivery of care
