Sheffield, United Kingdom Out of the Box Services Ltd Full time

Out of the Box Services, also known as Friends Together.

Here, at Friends Together, we believe that everyone should be able to live a fulfilling and inclusive life. We work with young and mature vulnerable adults who need extra support.

We strongly believe in a person-centred approach in everything we do to enable our customers to live an independent life as they choose

It is a guiding principal that the people we support deserve the best service for their money and we aim to provide a service that meets the highest of standards.

We are currently looking for a confident and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to support an adult with autism and epilepsy to live as independently and comfortably as possible. He needs help developing his independent living skills helping him to keep healthy and safe, manage and maintain his household, and to support his overall well-being.

There is no usual day while working at Out of the Box Services, our client needs help with food shopping, cooking and preparation of meals to support and maintain a healthy diet.

He needs help to keep his home clean and tidy and do laundry; as well has maintaining his tenancy with help to promptly report any faults to the landlord as needed. But he also needs to do his bit and would appreciate guidance, advice and prompts to keep his home habitable and safe.

You will need to be confident supporting someone to open post and respond to correspondence in a timely manner. Keeping on top of bills making sure they are paid and any forms are completed and returned. You will be working with our customer’s personal information so it is important that you are able to file of all important documents in hard copy and electronically. It is important that our client has as much control as possible so you will also prompt him to use and maintain mobile phone and digital formats as needed. Making sure he is keeping on top of his finances helping him to budget, and manage his on-going payments.

Our client needs help to stay on top of his diary so he doesn’t miss any appointments including medical and dental. You’ll need to keep an eye that he has enough of his medication and remind him to put his prescriptions in to get more when needed. He’ll need help when speaking to medical and dental professionals and reminders to contact his GP or Epilepsy Nurse if feeling unwell.

It would be handy if you had some experience of supporting people with epilepsy and the importance of following an Epilepsy Action Plan.

You will also be confident encouraging good personal hygiene and grooming; and be able to provide companionship and emotional support. You will also need to build a relationship with his family so that you can feedback any changes as needed and ask them for advice, information, or support where you’re unsure of how to proceed.

It’s not all work our customer attends a variety of activities; but can struggle to get there so really needs the help of someone who has a car to be able to drive him to appointments, shops and activities.

If you have experience working with people with extra needs specifically Autism and Epilepsy, or even just a desire to see them live fulfilled lives then we’d be interested hearing from you, but if you have any interests in all things Gothic, Steam Punk, Sci Fi, or Theatre and Drams then our customer will be too.
