**Human Resources & Organisational Development Opportunity**

An opportunity has arisen for a HR Consultant in our HR Advisory Team primarily supporting the Environment, Economic and Culture Directorate (EEC).

**About the role**:
**What is this role?**

This role will work with a team of HR professionals and will have a specific focus on providing Employee Relations advice to managers. The role will initially focus mainly on attendance management.

The Directorate is diverse ranging from City Planning, Regeneration and Transport and includes some very visible services across the City, such as refuse, recycling and street cleansing.

A key priority for the Organisation is to ensure a healthy and well workforce and there are a number of interventions to support this such as occupational health, counselling and on site physiotherapy.

There are huge costs both for the individual and the Organisation in protracted attendance management processes and this role will be critical in ensuring appropriate policies and procedures are followed in a timely way to ensure the best outcome for staff and the organisation.

The EEC Directorate is a busy area and management have a number of pressures and competing priorities which need to be met to ensure quality service delivery. The postholder needs to show significant resilience, perseverance and excellent communication skills. They will need to be confident in their ability to advise and support others as well as having an excellent level of knowledge and skill in dealing with employee relations case work specifically attendance management.

The workforce has a high degree of unionisation and the post holder will need to recognise and appreciate different perspectives in the employment relationship and demonstrate an ability to operate with sensitivity and professionalism when providing advice. Key to this role will be the ability to build and maintain strong and productive relationships.

One of our key areas of focus as a department is to support the directorates to proactively understand, engage with and respond effectively to the city’s diverse communities and changing demographic.

**HR Advisory Services**

The remit of the HR Advisory Team will continue to focus on the provision of a high quality professional advisory service to the organisation, and for managing case work to embed a culture of early informal resolution, fairness, tackling discrimination and ensuring that complex employment matters are dealt with effectively and sensitively. HR Consultant roles, reporting to HR Managers, work across schools and the council.

The role is hybrid with at minimum of 1 day a week at Hollingdean Depot, Upper Hollingdean Road, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 7GA. In addition the postholder will be expected to be on site to provide face to face support as needed.
