Characterisation & Health Physics Trainee

NUVIA is a subsidiary of VINCI construction, and an international company that operates across highly regulated sectors including Civil Nuclear. The Land Remediation and Characterisation Business Line specialise in the deployment and operation of mobile gamma spectrometry systems to various nuclear and non-nuclear sites throughout the UK and internationally. Typically, land remediation and decommissioning projects require radiation and contamination monitoring to be undertaken to ensure the radiological safety of personnel, plant, and the environment. In addition, maintenance of radiation protection and gamma spectrometry equipment is required to support the service.
A comprehensive training programme is offered to develop technical skills and industry knowledge. The training programme involves a 3 month course at the Harwell NUVIA offices and site experience with mentorship from Health Physics professionals.
**Main Duties**:
- To monitor radiological conditions within the working environment to ensure the radiological safety of personnel, plant, and the environment.
- Transport and operation of gamma spectrometry systems in support of decommissioning and remediation programmes of work.
- Maintenance of radiation protection and gamma spectrometry equipment.
**Position in organisation**:
Reporting to Supervisors, Principal Consultant, Business Manager.
**Qualification/Experience/Capability Required**:
- Strong problem-solving skills with a passion for continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to adapt to varying work environments and work effectively under the guidance of experienced professionals.
- Obtain appropriate security clearance.
- Full UK Driving licence.
- Keen to learn on the job.
- Willing to travel.
**Special Features of the Job**:
- Willing to travel once or twice a month to nuclear power stations and other sites.
- Enter contamination and radiation controlled areas and wear Personal Protective Equipment.
