**What we are looking for**

We are looking for an experienced radiation protection professional with a desire to work in a collaborative culture that values equality, diversity and inclusion. Working with a variety of multi-disciplinary teams to provide excellent service and to continuouslyimprove our radiation protection capability.

ISIS produces radiation as a by-product of its operational activities; prompt radiation from high energy proton, neutron and muons beams, and the radiation and radioactive contamination coming from the activation of various solid materials, liquids and gases(airborne).

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**

**As essentials**:

- Educated to a degree level in a scientific or engineering discipline or demonstrate considerable relevant experience in a radiation protection formed by mixed field of gamma, neutron, alpha and beta particles.
- Undertaken recognised training in Health Physics (theoretical and practical)
- Significant experience with practical Health Physics at a professional level, with an ability to select, check and use a wide range of Health Physics instruments and equipment
- Good IT skills, including MS Office, manipulating spreadsheets, and producing presentations and reports, are required
- Knowledge and some experience in contributing to relevant management systems
- Strong ability to think creatively, seek and accept change and continuous improvement
- A high degree of interpersonal skills, including good communication skills in English with a proven ability to work with others, provide a high level of customer service, resolve day-to-day customer and staff issues and contribute positively to team motivationand problem-solving
- Relevant experience in managing small technical teams (3 people), and potential for further development
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary and service oriented environment
- Must be able and willing to access all ISIS operational areas, including tunnels, walkways and work at heights, to enter and work in designated controlled radiation and contamination areas as a classified radiation worker, to wear personal and respiratoryprotective equipment
- Proven ability to manage technical issues, undertake complex fault diagnosis, and problem-solve using standard methods with some innovative/adaptive thinking
- Flexible working hours are required, with possible overtime (weekend and evening work) and on-call work. Also, must be able to attend emergency situations involving radiation or contamination, on and off-site (RAL)
- Good knowledge of relevant legislation
- Some experience participating in HSE/ONR/EA inspections
- Membership of the Society for Radiological Protection
- Occasional UK travel
- Driving licence

**As desirables**:

- Good knowledge/understanding of radiological protection issues affecting high-energy (proton) accelerator facilities
- Significant practical experience in using computing-controlled radiation detectors
- Proven people management skills and potential for further development for groups larger than 10 people
- Good IT skills, including basic programming knowledge (macros) and data (statistical) analysis capabilities
- Significant experience in managing projects using appropriate PM techniques and documents
- NEBOSH certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
