Widening Participation Operations Manager

The Widening Participation and Outreach team are seeking to appoint a Widening Participation Operations Manager to lead and manage the operations of projects within the Widening Participation and Outreach team.

The post holder will be responsible for managing all aspects of operations required to deliver projects in the team including leading on our student ambassador scheme, overseeing our marketing and communications to participants, schools and parents, and ensuring appropriate event support is in place for our delivery teams.

The role forms part of the Widening Participation management team, and the postholder will provide specialist strategic, planning and analytical support for the Head of Widening Participation.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week), open-ended post.

**Salary**: £35,333 - £42,155 per annum (Grade 6)

Key Duties
Manage the operations of the widening participation team, planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required.
Co-ordinate, organise and arrange delivery of a variety of engagement activities as required by the widening participation and outreach team.
To manage the administrative support for events across the department, ensuring all delivery teams have the appropriate event support needed.
Conform to internal and sponsor (if applicable) requirements as detailed in various project specifications.
Contribute to the long term management of the department, interpreting directorate strategies into the project.
Manage the student ambassador scheme which supports all projects.
Support the team through managing both internal and external communications in collaboration with the University’s Communications team.
Manage the performance, induction and development of the operations team within the department.
Support and guide team members in welfare issues, escalating as necessary to specialist support areas.
Ensure the delivery of the team’s service level agreements, adapting these according to changes in workload and project requirements.
Develop networks across the department and academic school to ensure the success of the team’s objectives and long term plans.
Make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures.
Undertake the training of others in areas relating to the team’s work.
Undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance.
Gather and analyse data to inform decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education
1. Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent work related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
2. Substantial experience of managing a team, including ability to plan work, reacting to changes in workload and priority.
3. Experience of writing communications for internal and external stakeholders.
4. Substantial experience of engagement work with schools and in the community.
5. Experience of managing day to day operations of projects requiring work with schools.
6. Proven experience in developing new processes and procedures.

Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
7. Ability to communicate detailed and complex information effectively and professionally to a wide range of people.
8. Experience of dealing with performance and welfare issues.
9. Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.

Other
10. Understanding and awareness of the importance of Widening Participation and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Desirable Criteria

11. Postgraduate/Professional qualification.
12. Experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
13. Fluency in Welsh, written and oral.

Additional Information

It should also be noted that it will not normally be possible to take annual leave on undergraduate and postgraduate open days, during summer schools or during the Confirmation and Clearing period in August.

About the Department
The Communications and Marketing Department is responsible for the University’s reputation and branding as well as UK/International student recruitment operations. It covers six areas: communications, marketing, student recruitment, digital communications, international and public affairs.

Communications plays an important part in building and maintaining the reputation of the University through effective communication to the public and to external and internal stakeholders. It communicates the achievements and aspirations of the University through a variety of media and includes a film unit. The team represents the University on a corporate level.

Digital Communications is responsible for the design, development and content of the external website and the intranet.

Marketing is responsible for developing a strong brand identity for the University at the corporate level, with an emphasis on better visual branding and market research.

Student recruitment plays an important role in attracting the University's undergraduate and postgraduate students from throughout the UK and Internationally, working in partnership with the University’s colleges and academic schools to recruit higher calibre students. The team also manages the University’s widening participation programmes and the School’s Partnership Project.

The International Office drives the University’s international recruitment strategy and advises on all areas related to international recruitment and development.

Public affairs leads on stakeholder relationships locally, nationally and internationally.
